Chase Freedom Flex Q3 2024 Bonus Categories

Chase just announced the bonus categories for Q3 2024 for the Freedom Flex. If you haven’t picked it up yet, it is one of the best no annual fee cards out there. With July 1st right around the corner, activate the offer now so you can hit the ground running.

Why This is Such a Great Card

The Chase Freedom Flex is an incredible no annual fee card which offers 5% cash back on rotating categories each quarter. Now, if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Sapphire Reserve, or the Ink Business Preferred, you can earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points instead of cash back. I value Ultimate Rewards points at 1.7 cents per point which increases your return from 5% to 8.5%.

You can earn 5 points per dollar on the first $1,500 spent across all categories each quarter for a total of 7,500 points. Maximizing each quarterly bonus means you can earn up to 30,000 points each year. That’s a crazy good deal especially considering this card has no annual fee.

What’s in Store for Q3 2024

This quarter should be a little tougher to max out compared to Q2. Coming up in the 3rd quarter we have the following bonus categories. See Chase’s website for a full breakdown of each category.

  • Gas Stations

    • Merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category; for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.

  • EV Charging

  • Select Live Entertainment

    • As I’m sure many are wondering what is considered “Select Live Entertainment, here is the language directly from Chase’s website: “Merchants in this category sell tickets for live in-person entertainment such as major professional sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, museums, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, circuses, carnivals, bands, and entertainers. Ticket agencies selling on behalf of the entertainment venue are included. Some merchants that sell tickets for in-person entertainment are not included in this category; for example, movie theaters, bowling alleys, horse racing tracks, casinos, and dance hall/clubs. Purchasing from a hotel/concierge is not included nor excursions or purchases as part of a travel package.”

  • Movie Theaters

Depending on how much you drive it may be hard to max this category out this quarter without going to some movies or live entertainment. Some gas stations do sell gift cards that

Keep in mind that this card does impose a 2.7% foreign transaction fee so try to only use this in the US or its value proposition decreases by more than half.

Wrapping Up

The Chase Freedom Flex is one of the best no annual fee cards out there. Earning 5x points on the first $1,500 spent at Gas Stations, EV Charging, Select Live Entertainment and Movie Theaters is an easy way to rack up a ton of points.
