Chase Freedom Flex Q1 2024 Bonus Categories

Chase recently announced the bonus categories for the Freedom Flex. If you haven’t picked it up yet, it is one of the best no annual fee cards out there. With 2024 just a few weeks away, activate the offer now so you can hit the ground running and max out your points once the new year starts.

Why This is Such a Great Card

The Chase Freedom Flex is an incredible no annual fee card which offers 5% cash back on rotating categories each quarter. Now, if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Sapphire Reserve, or the Ink Business Preferred, you can earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points instead of cash back. I value Ultimate Rewards points at 1.7 cents per point which increases your return from 5% to 8.5%.

You can earn 5 points per dollar on the first $1,500 spent across all categories each quarter for a total of 7,500 points. Maximizing each quarterly bonus means you can earn up to 30,000 points each year. That’s a crazy good deal especially considering this card has no annual fee.

The 2023 Calendar

Hopefully you didn’t miss out on 2023’s bonus categories. But if you did, don’t forget to activate by March 14th, 2024. Why not just do it now? All you have to do is go to https://www.chasebonus.com/ enter in your last name, ZIP code, and the last 4 digits of your card. Its as simple as that.

What’s in Store for Q1 2024

This quarter should be pretty easy to max out. Coming up in 2024 we have the following bonus categories

  • Grocery Stores (excluding Walmart and Target)

  • Fitness Clubs & Gym Memberships

  • Self-Care and Spa Services

The easiest place to max this out is clearly at grocery stores. Everyone I know has to eat so this should be pretty straightforward. Looking at it monthly, you only need to spend $500 a month to earn the full bonus.

Unless you have a crazy expensive gym or love to pamper yourself at the spa, the grocery store is most likely the easiest way to earn a quick 7,500 points.

How Else to Maximize This Offer: Gift Cards

So what if you hate cooking and rarely go to the grocery store? You may be thinking this is a pretty tough quarter to max out. This is a strategy you should be using all year round to get the most points you possibly can. Every grocery store sells gift cards and they still code as a grocery store purchase. Whenever I am going to buy something that doesn’t get any bonus points I stop by the grocery store to pick up a gift card from a national retailer so that I can earn 4x points with my American Express Gold. I’ll obviously be using my Freedom Flex from January 1st through March 31st, 2024 or until I’ve spent $1,500.

Amazon and Lowe’s are the two gift cards I most frequently buy at grocery stores to ensure I get the most points for my purchases. A good rule of thumb though is to not buy more gift cards than you can use in a short amount of time or if you don’t have an immediate use for them. There’s always the chance that you can lose the gift card in which case you’re out of luck.

The Chase Freedom Flex is one of the best no annual fee cards out there. Earning 5x points on the first $1,500 spent at grocery stores is an easy way to rack up a ton of points. This is another great card in your arsenal to always earn more than 1 point per dollar on all purchases.
