Bilt Rewards Adding Alaska Airlines as a Transfer Partner

After yesterday’s bad news of Bilt losing American Airlines as a transfer partner, we just learned that Alaska will be joining their ranks effective immediately!

Apply for the Bilt Mastercard

Bilt Basics

Even if your landlord doesn’t accept credit cards, or does for a fee, you can still use your Bilt card to pay rent. They’ll send a check to your landlord for no fee. Bilt is working with many property management companies around the country to get them on board so your landlord might already be on Bilt’s platform. But if not, they’ll still send a check off for you. You don’t even have to remember each month as you can set up an automatic payment. All you have to do is go into the Bilt app or their website and set up where to send the rent payment to.

Alaska Mileage Plan

For those living on the East Coast, you may have never considered Alaska Mileage Plan but they have an incredible frequent flyer program with tons of great redemption opportunities with 26 airline partners. Previously, the only way to earn Alaska miles was with one of their co-branded credit cards or to actually fly with them so this is a great development. Hopefully this trial run with Bilt will lead to Alaska partnering with some of the other large banks out there like American Express, Chase, Citi, and Capital One. We’ll see.

Earn Alaska Mileage Plan Miles by Paying Rent

Another interesting option they will be rolling out later this year is the ability to pay rent directly with your Alaska Airlines credit card through the Bilt app. They will be adding a 3x bonus to the card when paying rent through Bilt. However, there is going to be a 3% fee to do that.

  • Earn 1x Bilt Rewards points for free by paying your rent with your Bilt Mastercard

  • Earn 3x Alaska Airlines miles by paying your rent through Bilt with your Alaska Airlines credit card with a 3% fee

Alaska miles are valuable and you’d essentially be buying them for 1 cent each by using your Alaska Airlines card to pay rent. Unless you have a specific redemption you are aiming for and need to build up your Alaska Mileage Plan balance, I would just stick to paying your rent with your actual Bilt Mastercard for no fee.

Wrapping Up

While it sucks that Bilt is losing American Airlines, they just added Alaska Airlines as a transfer partner. Additionally, you will get the ability to pay your rent through the Bilt app with your Alaska Airlines card and earn 3x points later this year. However, they will charge you a 3% fee to do so.
