Save on Amazon with American Express Points

Every few months, American Express and Amazon have a great promotion where you can get a discount on your Amazon purchase by using American Express points. Well, the latest promotion is back and you can save up to 50% off. This deal just reset which is usually in conjunction with a big sale on Amazon. So even if you’ve already enrolled, check to see if you can get a better offer.
50% Off with One Amex Point
With the latest promotion, you can save up to 50% off by using at least one American Express Membership Rewards point for a discount of up to $80. To get the maximum discount with this offer you’ll need to spend $160. This is targeted so you’ll want to check this link. Even if you were targeted last go around, there’s still a good chance you will be now too. I was only targeted for 30% off up to a maximum discount of $30.
All you need to do is click Activate promotion and you should see that you are good to go.
A few things to note:
You’ll need to have an American Express card that earns Membership Rewards points, so one of their cobranded cards like with Delta or Marriott won’t work
This promotion is available until June 30th or until 24,167 people enroll, so do this ASAP
The discount is only available for products sold by Amazon.com so if Amazon just fulfils the orders, it won’t qualify.
How to Get the Most Value
Ordinarily, I would not recommend using your American Express points to pay for things on Amazon as you only get 0.7 cents per point value from them. I value Amex points at 1.7 cents per point so you would be losing a significant amount of value by paying for the entire Amazon purchase with points.
The good thing about this promotion is you only have to use 1 point to get the discount. So be sure to apply only “0.01” American Express points at checkout.
Be sure to only apply 0.01 Membership Rewards Points
I picked a $100 Uber eGift Card and as you can see got the full $30 off plus a 1 cent discount from paying with the one Amex point.
If you don’t have something in your cart or need to buy now, buying gift cards is a good way to utilize this offer. Amazon has a ton of gift cards from things like Whole Foods to Southwest to DoorDash.
